Obituary of Mario John Cecchettini

Please share a memory of Mario to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On May 19, Mario John Cecchettini, 81, passed on after a long illness.

Born in Mountainside, NJ to John and Florence Cecchettini, he graduated from Jonathan Dayton Springfield Regional High School and joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea.  Following an honorable discharge, he became a barber. After a few years he and his business partner opened the Village Barber Shop in Pluckemin, NJ where he remained until his retirement.

He was active in St. Bartholomew Church, served as president of the PTO, volunteered as a physical education instructor at St. Bartholomew school and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Mario also served as president of the board of trustees in his townhome association.

After moving to the Renaissance in Manchester, he was a busy volunteer in the golf cart association.  He would also fix almost anything for family, friends and neighbors.  Mario was a good cook from a young age.  He was also an avid golfer for 45 years and often rose before dawn to complete a round before the rest of the family awoke.  Family was a top priority.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Mario is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Marilyn Leslie Cecchettini, his daughter Kathryn Stokes, his daughter Laura and son-in-law Michael Lynch, and four grandchildren Blake, Justine, Sean and Caitlin. He is pre-deceased by his brother John. Surviving are his sisters Dolores Guerriero, Nancy Riccio, Jean Marotto and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, 619 Chestnut St, Lakehurst, NJ 08733 on June 14 at 11am.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association, The Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean County or Manchester First Aid.
