Margaret Katherine Smith, 70 of Toms River, NJ died very suddenly on Jan 1, 2017 in Hospice Care at Ocean Medical Center with her family by her side. Marge or Margie as she was known was born to the late Julius and Margaret List on November 28, 1946 in Newark, NJ. Marge grew up in Union, NJ where she attended St. Michael’s Grammar School. Marge graduated from Benedictine Academy in 1964 and then received a business degree from Drake College of Business in 1965. She married Robert A. Smith in 1968. She is survived by her sister June List and her 3 daughters Jacqueline Krapf of Canton, GA, Stephanie Smith of Oakland, FL, and Stacie Smith of Seneca, SC along with her 5 grandchildren; Savannah Krapf (19), Alden Krapf(16) Anniston Krapf (15) Olivia Smith (13) and Caiden Smith (11) and cousins Michael Nemeth and Joseph (and wife) Carol Nemeth, Patricia Partly Shumsky and Patricia Kantor Renner. Marge worked for the NJ State Police for 20 years as a secretary in the Organized Crime Unit. Marge completely enjoyed her work within her department before she retired in 2008. Marge loved to read, shop and travel. Growing up, she would spend her summers and weekends at her family's home in Brick Town. She moved to Toms River in 1985 where she would spend many days at the NJ shore. She also loved to travel to many beach destinations. Most importantly she loved to travel down south to visit her 5 grandchildren as much as possible. Memorial Services will be arranged and announced at a later date. She will be missed greatly. Donations can be made in her name to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, (JDRF) or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
