Dr. John J. Carone

Dr. John J. Carone was born to Italian immigrant parents, Domenic and Saveria Carone on November 4, 1924 in Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ.  He left his material existence on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in Toms River NJ, after a brief illness. He was the youngest of three boys (brothers Frank and Sabino).

Not the typical elder, right up to the time of his passing at age 93 he drove, blogged and was an astute presence on social media.

For much of his life he was a double threat— chiropractor and computer programmer. He started as a chiropractor at the time they were oppressed by the medical profession, and as a computer expert before anyone dreamed we’d all have one at home and in our pockets. Himself a pioneer, he lived to see both of those arenas join the mainstream.

John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he met his wife, Patricia (Keane) Carone. He was also an athlete in his youth, playing semi-pro football for the Cedarbrooks, and was a true golf addict from age 50 on. He was an accomplished public speaker, flirted with politics with a run for the NJ State Senate as an Independent, was the Republican Committee Chairman in Plainfield, and studied harmonica for about a day and a half.

Dr. Carone and his wife, Patricia, whose transition preceded his by almost five years, gave life to ten children, all extant: Jack Carone, Mary Lynn Mancini, Sally Muldowney (Jack), Patricia Carone-Curtis (Peter), Donald Carone (Irene), Gail Garabo (Dr. James), Carol Stephenson, Michael Carone (Andrea), Frank Carone, and Dr. William Carone (Lisa).  By extension, he leaves behind 29 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Despite the many and regular additions to the family, he never lost his joy in the youngsters. He beams in every photo of himself with a new arrival. That they all remain fiercely devoted to him and his wife, their mother and grandmother, in this life and beyond, is a testament to the fine people, parents and grandparents they were.

We, his family, are all in his debt, and know how fortunate we are to have had him and our mother in our lives for so long. As he used to say in a mixture of amazement and wonder,

                                                          “ I have old kids! “

As old as any of us manage to get, we will always proudly and gratefully be John and Patricia Carone’s kids.

Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, 619 Chestnut St., Lakehurst, NJ. 08733.
