Walter John Renken passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday,
July 11, 2025. Originally from Sayerville, Walter moved to Ocean County as a teenager
where he met his wife, Joanne. They married in 1976 and lived in Manahawkin for 49
years.
Walt had a strong passion for music and especially loved playing his Fender
Stratocaster guitars. He was part of numerous local cover bands over the years and
became affectionately known as “Doc Rock.” Walt was also an avid sports fan and
enjoyed watching and attending baseball, football, hockey games, and NASCAR races
with his favorite people. Above all else, Walt was a devoted family man. Nothing brought
him greater joy than hanging in his backyard, listening to some classic rock with his
wife, daughters, and their families.
Walt is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; his 3 daughters and their husbands
Jennifer and Cameron Bevan of Manahawkin, Kelly and Eric Wedderman of
Manahawkin, Amy and Gary Perez of Aurora, CO; and eight grandchildren Natalie,
Matthew, Sean, Liam, Quinn, Jamie, Madeline, and Benjamin. A Celebration of Life will
be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southern
Regional High School Music Department, 90 Cedar Bridge Rd. Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
