Joseph Frank Caponera, born on June 16, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, a devoted father and loving grandfather, was peacefully called to his eternal home on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in Barnegat, New Jersey.
Joseph was a guiding light to all who were blessed to have known him. His life was defined by steadfast love, compassion, quiet strength, and an unwavering faith in God. He carried himself with dignity and purpose, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends, and the many whose hearts he touched.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Rose Caponera, and his beloved brother, Anthony Caponera.
He is survived by his cherished children: Janice Mascelli and her husband, Michael; Michael Caponera and his wife, Karen; and RoseAnne Caponera. Joseph took great pride in his role as “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Jake, Christopher, Samantha, Kendra, Emma, Ava and Luke. He is further survived by his partner Virginia Caponera. And boy did he love his grand-pups, Mason, Dolly, and Minnie who will certainly miss the ample helping of treats supplied by “Pop Pop”.
He will be remembered as a man of integrity, wisdom, and profound devotion to his family and faith.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 24, 2026, at St. Mary’s Church, 747 West Bay Avenue, Barnegat, New Jersey 08005.
