John Eric Kurts Obituary

John was born in Trenton on June 9, 1949. He attended the public schools and graduated from Hamilton West High School in 1967. While there, he was all-city and all-county his junior year and the star quarterback his senior year.

After graduating, John continued to demonstrate his strong leadership and athletic skills both on and off the field. He enlisted in the Army at 18 and attended West Point where he played for the Army Football Team. After an injury to his back, he attended Trenton State College and earned a degree in History. While teaching History at Bordentown Regional High School he attended Seton Hall at night and later passed the bar to become an Attorney.

Working for various Law Firms, he eventually became a partner with Bookbinder, Guest, Domzalski and Kurts, located on High Street in Burlington, NJ. While he was there, he was fortunate enough to meet his wife, Nancy Measey. Their first dates were on Long Beach Island where John vacationed every summer. After a short courtship, they married and had two children together, Michealian (Mick) and Magill (Maggie). John eventually started his own practice in Burlington, where he resided with his family.

John loved the beach and made his dream of living at the shore a reality five years ago. His favorite saying was, “I just love it here!”! John loved many things: walking his dog Cooper every morning, playing Scrabble every night, enjoying beautiful sunsets in the evening, NYT crossword puzzles, reading history books, researching his family ancestry, and his favorite was spending time with his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Nancy Measey Kurts; his children Mick (Casey), Magill (Matt); his three siblings, Patti Hallgreen (Ray), Mark Kurts and Sue Burg (Charlie) and their children. He is also survived by his loving sisters-in-law, Maryann Ciechanowski (Walt), Karen Brough, Patricia Brankley (Russ), and his brother-in-law, Tom Measey (Cassandra) and their children.

There will be a “Celebration of Life” for John at a later date. In lieu of flowers, John would prefer you to go read a book or pet a dog.
