Hila Jack Obituary

Hila Jack, 88, of Toms River, passed away on February 17. Born on August 30 in Towanda, Pennsylvania, grew up in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Hila was the kind of person who went above and beyond caring for everyone around her, especially her family without ever making a fuss.

To know Hila was to know true warmth and love. She was generous, kind, selfless, and easy-going. She never complained. If you needed help, she was there. If someone asked for one meal, she made it. If someone asked for ten different meals, she would have found a way to do that too.

Hila loved her family more than anything. She cherished time together, especially the holidays, decorating her very own real Christmas tree every year. She adored her grandchildren and would do absolutely anything for them, no matter what it was. She also loved the beach and summertime. Hila was happiest by the ocean, soaking up the sun with her tanning oil. Hila had a creative spirit as well and loved ceramics. Like everything she did, her ceramics were made with love.

There were also the little Hila signatures everyone will remember: stories about working nights at the Bell-Tell telephone company for 25 years; her beloved chicken cacciatore; and her very serious devotion to sweets with a soft spot for Peeps. And she had a timeless elegance—always gorgeous, always perfectly put together with her hair, makeup, and outfit just right.

But above all, Hila’s legacy is love: steady and wholehearted. Her family will miss her in the everyday moments and feel her in the traditions she made sweeter.

Hila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, and her grandson, Tyler. She is survived by her two sisters Norma and Gerri, her children Cindy, Bob, Jerry, and Vickie, as well as eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchilden, who will carry her warmth forward.
