Franklin F. Michenfelder, age 87, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family on Saturday, February 28, 2026. He died of Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons disease.


Franklin, known as “Frank” or “Mich” grew up in Clark NJ and then married and moved to Berkeley Heights NJ where he lived for 38 years before retiring and moving to Lavallette, NJ.


Frank graduated from Johnathan Dayton High school in Springfield, NJ in 1956. He loved playing sports, especially football and track. When he was eighteen years old, he joined the NJ National Guard and was tank commander for 6 years.


In 1960, he married his Highschool sweetheart Nancy Moen and was married for 65 years. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy Michenfelder of Lavallette NJ, his two devoted sons, Scott Franklin Michenfelder of Somerset NJ and Mark Henry Michenfelder of Lavallette NJ. He is also survived by his loving sister Janet Robinson of Newnan Georgia and his precious dog Chardonnay.


Frank was preceded in death by his parents Katherine Haggetter and Franklin Michenfelder both of Sharpsburg Georgia.


Frank obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Fairleigh Dickenson University in Madison NJ.


Starting in 1962, Frank started work at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill NJ in the Research Engineering Organization designing apparatuses to be used in the development of future telephone equipment. He then worked in the Building Engineering and Occupancy Planning Group and then moved into the Furniture Design Organization. Starting in 1983, he worked for AT&T in Liberty Corners NJ where he was the Telecommunications Manager and Environmental Safety Officer, retiring in 1997.


Frank served as the director of the PAL in Berkeley Heights NJ for 10 years. When he moved to Lavallette NJ, he joined the Republican Club and the Environmental Club.


Frank always loved having a good time and enjoyed a good party. He loved telling jokes and stories and he loved to be the center of attention. He loved golfing, boating and fishing and took his family on 27 cruises to the Caribbean and Maine/Canada.


Frank played an important role in getting our street annexed from Toms River into Lavallette NJ in 2007.


Frank was a member of the Union Church of Lavallette, NJ and practiced Christianity throughout his life. He will be sadly missed, but we know he is with his creator.
