James R Hogan Obituary

James R Hogan, 73, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Deborah

Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mill, NJ after a long illness.

Jim was born in Elizabeth, NJ on August 11, 1952, to the late James P. Hogan and Angela

LaRosa. He graduated from Colonia High School in 1970 and moved to Ocean County. He

attended Ocean County Community College, Rutgers University, and Stockton University.

Jim had a diverse and exciting career. At Marine Safety Corp he built and later designed

life saving equipment for deploying lifeboats on ships and offshore oil rigs. Then at Air Cruisers

Co he designed aircraft evacuation slides, in particular the systems that helped survivors in the

Miracle on the Hudson plane crash. Jim was the lead thermal designer on the Mars Observer

Mission at Lockheed Martin and worked on repairs to the Hubble telescope. At the Newtown PA

facility Jim worked in the Antenna Design Engineering Group. He designed antenna components

for a number of commercial programs (including JCSat-9, Rainbow-1) and government (MUOS)

programs. He also worked on critical mechanism designs. He was very proud that his career

centered on producing equipment that saved lives.

Jim had a compassionate heart. He supported the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

He also supported the Humane World for Animals to end cruelty and suffering. With gratitude

for the care he received at Deborah Heart and Lung Center Jim supported the Deborah

Foundation.

As a lifelong learner, a trait Jim inherited from his great grandfather, Jim was an avid

reader. Books by his favorite authors, T.S. Eliot and J.R.R. Tolkien were always within reach. He

also loved comedy, especially the Jeeves and Wooster series and the Big Bang Theory.

Jim loved the music of Engelbert Humperdinck, Queen, and the Moody Blues. He also

sang with the Metro Lyric Opera Group. Jim was an accomplished artist gifting his paintings to

his family, his friends, and his doctors. He put a piece of his heart and his soul into every

painting he made.

Jim will be dearly missed by his wife of 54 years, Jacqualyn Johnson, his daughters Erin

Lorien Hogan (John McNary), and Tara Eressea Hogan Fuller (Larry Fuller), his granddaughter,

Kaeli Rose, and his grandsons, Rory Conor and Liam Patrick. He is also survived by his

brothers, Brian (Patricia), Michael (Wendy), and John (Suzanne). As well as sister-in-law

Lorraine Johnson Esbia and brother-in-law Eric Johnson, and many nieces and nephews. He was

predeceased by siblings Kathleen, Tommy, Barry, and Bobby. Rest in Peace Jim.

“The darkness declares the glory of the light.” T.S. Eliot
