I Have Pre-Planned At One Funeral Home, Can I Switch Funeral Homes?

Pre-planning a funeral has several great advantages. People can save money, make sure the deceased’s wishes are followed, relieve the family’s burden, and so much more. At Ocean County Cremation Service, we encourage everyone to consider funeral pre-planning. Many people hesitate because they don’t know what will happen in the future. What if you have to move to a different state?

You Can Switch Funeral Homes

Most funeral homes offer pre-planning services and know that life can be unpredictable. These services include provisions for transferring the plan to a new establishment. Different homes have different policies so you may need to discuss the option in detail. Here are some factors to consider:

  • Contacting the Old Funeral Home – The first step is to contact the old funeral home and inform them of the transfer. They will explain the process and coordinate with your current funeral home to make arrangements.

  • Transfer of Paperwork – Both directors will handle the transport of paperwork. You only need to sign all relevant forms and provide approval for everything to go through.

  • Pre-Payment – If you have partially or fully paid for the funeral service, your old home won’t refund it directly. They will pay the money directly to your current funeral home after the policyholder is deceased.

This process varies from one funeral home to another so it is a good idea to consider all factors involved before investing in a plan. Most establishments will be happy to answer all questions regarding the pre-planning process. Some do not accept or allow transfers and you may end up wasting money if you choose them.

If you want to know more or want to arrange for a service, contact us at Ocean County Cremation Service today. We'll be happy to help.
