When a person passes away, as a family member you have to decide whether you want to conduct a burial or cremation. Some people preplan their funeral and keep detailed instructions about what they want the funeral service to be like after their death. Sometimes, people are not sure what they need to do with the cremains or ashes after cremation.

Options After Cremation

The Ocean County Cremation Service experts have outlined what you can do with the cremains of a family member:

  • Some people prefer to keep their loved one’s ashes close to them and place the urn on a mantelpiece or table.

  • Sometimes, they create a memorial nook in their garden and place the ashes there.

  • You have the option to place the urn in a columbarium, which is a structure in a cemetery or church property. This structure is built for storing urns and has niches in walls where the urns are placed. There is also a plaque that you can write details such as the person’s name etc.

  • You can also bury the ashes in a cemetery after the cremation and place a tombstone as usual. It gives you a place to visit and pay your respects to your loved ones whenever you want.

  • Another option is to scatter the ashes at sea. Some people scatter the ashes in the mountains, but you need to check what is permissible in your location.

As you can see, there are many different options to what you can do with ashes after cremation. If you have any doubts or queries or need information about the different types of urns, feel free to contact the professionals at Ocean County Cremation Service today.
