4 Types Of Cremation: Understanding The Differences

After someone passes, their remains can either be buried or cremated and most people follow the traditional path of burial. Cremation is common in many cultures across the world and is now gaining traction in the US. We at Ocean County Cremation Service get a lot of queries from clients about cremation.

Different Types Of Cremation Services

Since there are four different types of cremation, here is some information that will help you understand the differences between them:

  • Cremation with a traditional service is a combination of cremation and a conventional funeral service with a casket and embalming. This aspect also makes it the most expensive type of cremation.

  • Cremation with a memorial service involves conducting a service after the cremation and no mortal remains are placed at the venue. Instead, an urn with the person’s ashes is kept and family and friends can pay their respects.

  • Cremation without a ceremony or direct cremation does not include embalming, and there is neither a visitation nor funeral service. The mortal remains are cremated very soon after the person passes, making it a cheaper disposition method.

  • Cremation with the body being donated to science is where the person donates their entire body to science. In this case, the organization handles all the formalities and pays for the cremation. The family does not have to pay anything.

As you can see, there are certainly distinct differences in the four types of cremation and the pricing will depend on the one you opt for. If you are considering preplanning this aspect, this information can help you decide which option to choose.
