Easy Ways to Personalize a Funeral Service on a Budget

Finances, or lack of, can play a huge role in deciding on funeral service arrangements and restricting what you may want, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful and personal service for your loved one. Being clever about what you spend money on can avoid hefty costs and you can add different creative elements more cost-effectively to add the small, meaningful touches. Here are some options to consider.

Music – Include one or two of your loved ones’ favourite songs to be played, either during the entrance, exit or service and all this requires is you giving a CD or song to the funeral director.

Flower Substitutes – If you can’t afford flowers for the top of the coffin you don’t have to leave it bare. Why not include the deceased’s favourite items or perhaps a hat that they frequently wore.

Location – The venue will largely dictate the amount to be spent and this can end up being costly. To reduce this, you can opt to have a cremation and then hold the service at a personal location that is more suited to the deceased, for example, this could be at a person’s house, your local church hall or even a garden or park service. You can make the location special and personalized without having to spend a lot of money.

Special Readings – A popular option that many like to opt for is to include specific readings, passages or poems that have sentimental value to you. This could be anything from a favourite bible passage to a section of a book to famous quotes or speeches. Anything that identifies with you and your loved ones is okay to include. Just note that you may have to trim these down if they are quite long to fit into the length of the service.

Just remember that budget doesn’t dictate the personal memories and small touches that you can include in your service, so use your imagination! Feel free to visit our website or contact us for more budget friendly advice.
