When a person passes away, people often wonder what they should do with their cremated remains. There are a few different options open to you with reference to what you can do with the ashes of your cremated loved one listed here:

  • Burying - You have the option to place the ashes in an urn and then bury it in a burial ground. This is also a common way of disposing of the ashes; urn burial grounds are economical compared to a traditional burial ground. It gives people the chance to visit the ground when they feel the need to reconnect with a family member or friend that has passed away.

  • Scattering - This is the commonest and most symbolic way of disposing of the cremated remains. Some families scatter the ashes in the ocean while others choose to scatter them in wooded areas or some other land. If you are planning to do the latter, you’d have to check with local authorities to ensure there are no restrictions on doing so.

  • Columbarium - This is a place where cremated remains are stored in urns on shelves or niches in the walls. It is similar to a burial because you just reserve a place here. Family and friends can visit the place when they want to pay their respects.

  • Bury the remains in your home - You have the option put the remains in an urn and then bury it in your backyard. This is a convenient option and doesn’t cost much. You can choose to leave the area undisclosed or build a small memorial in that spot if you like.
