When a loved one passes away, more often than not, you lose a part of your traditions during the holiday season. The absence of the person intensifies the loss as well as the meaning of a tradition. If you add a new tradition at such a time it will help you recover from your grief. Here are some simple ideas for adding a new tradition.

1. Experiment With Something New - A new tradition means new thinking to get over the feelings of sorrow and grief. You can participate in community service during the holiday celebration, join a run, or go to a home for the elderly and spend time visiting to spread cheer.

2. Loved One’s Favourite Dish - Holiday festivities means delicious foods and desserts to indulge in. Your loved one’s favourite dish can become a part of the spread at the dinner table, which will be sure to bring up fond memories to exchange.

3. Holiday Memory Box: Put out a box, slips of paper, and pens and ask friends and fanily who visit to write down their favorite holiday memories, or memories of loved ones. Have them put their slips in the box and read them aloud over dessert.

4. Arrange A Family Reunion - A family reunion after a loved one’s death is a nice way to heal. It helps you share memories in a meaningful way and sets a new tradition of better bonding.

5. Place Flowers At The Grave - Communicating with the loved one during holiday festivities is emotionally soothing. A new tradition is set when you visit and place flowers at the grave of the loved one and express your love.

It is good to keep in mind that traditions don't have to be set in stone, and can be tweaked as family dynamics change. This makes them meaningful and relevant. What are your favorite family traditions? Tell us in the comments below.
