Funeral planning involves some thought and can be a challenging process. When you are dealing with the loss of a loved one, you might be stressed and overwhelmed too. But you still need to make sure that the entire funeral and disposition process is planned well so that it progresses without a glitch. Here is some information about the steps you need to follow:

  • One of the very first things to do is to inform family and close friends about the death.
  • Contact your loved ones workplace (if applicable) and inform them about it too.
  • Create a list of all the things you need to ask the funeral director.
  • If there are specific requirements that you have and want to customize the service, keep that in view as well.
  • Make sure you have a budget in line and that the package you choose fits into it.
  • When you are planning the service, ensure that the event is organized keeping in view the decedent’s cultural and religious leanings.
  • After the service, you have the option either to organize a ceremony or head for the crematory. Family members can pay their respects to the deceased person in the committal service.
  • If you have opted for a burial the casket would be lowered into a grave. If you have chosen a cremation and have been handed over the ashes in an urn, you can either carry them home or place them in an urn vault and bury them.

While there are certain common traditions that people follow, you always have the option to alter them based on your specific needs and wants. Customizing the service is a good way to make it more relevant and meaningful.
