Just as the birth is celebrated as the beginning of life, death too is getting attention as an end of life. Many people have started looking at it as an event for which they need to plan. Instead of sticking to traditional funeral services, they are looking for unconventional ways to celebrate death.

How Is An Unconventional Funeral Different?

In a traditional funeral service, the family members of the deceased took the lead in funeral arrangements. They followed a set format for funeral and memorial services. The dress and decorum code followed by the mourners was a standard one.

Today some people prefer to pre-plan their funeral services and individualize them by choosing how their funeral service will be. Some of the popular choices are:

  • Cremation Is Popular – Cremation is becoming popular as a larger number of people are moving away from traditional burials. It is cost-effective because the body can be cremated without expensive embalming and the use of costly land needed for burial.
  • Green Burials Are Preferred – People are increasingly looking for eco-friendly options. Green burials that are light on the use of natural resources. A bio-degradable casket and a non-embalmed body both contribute to lowering the expenditure of the funeral service as well.
  • Gateway Funerals – The preference for a particular burial location or for scattering of ashes is emerging as a new trend. These are called gateway funerals and the mourners join the funeral procession at the chosen location.

As new and novel ways of saying goodbye to the departed take shape, people seek a balance of their funeral service concept and the right budget. The fear of death is fading and more personal ways of handling the body after death are sought based on individual choices.
