The Importance of the End-of-Life Talk with Your Loved Ones

Most people decide against this conversation before even thinking about it because they want to avoid an uncomfortable and upsetting topic. Others seem to think this conversation can be morbid. Here are some reasons why this conversation is important and should be discussed with your loved ones.

Having an opportunity to sit down with your loved ones and go over your wishes and desires for the last days of your life and the funeral ceremony when your death occurs, can spare your loved one with a challenging guess. They will be encountering many difficult emotions and going through a great amount of pain. Making decisions in this state of mind without any direction can be stressful and confusing.

When it comes time for them to implement these plans that you have voiced to them, they can do so with confidence knowing that they will choose and put together a ceremony, selecting the services that will honor your wishes. This will give not only you but your family a peace of mind knowing that you will be laid to rest the way you intended, whether you choose a burial or cremation and even down to the little details like flowers.

Here are some topics that you can go over with your family:

  • End-of-Life Wishes: How do you wish to spend your final days?
  • Donating organs
  • Life support
  • Burial or Cremation
  • Final Resting Place (Grave plot, Columbarium, Ashes at home or scattered)
  • Music
  • Flowers
  • Speakers
  • Who do you want at your service? Is it public or private?

When you feel the time is right to have this conversation with your loved ones, express how important they are to you and how you want them to worry as little as possible when you pass. You want them to be able to go grieve without any added stress that you have control over now.

The time is now to have this discussion. If you have any other questions on this topic, you can contact, Ocean County Cremation Service, here
