Why Are Flowers The Common Choice To Send For Funerals

Sending flowers to funerals is a very ancient practice, and it was prevalent for people to arrange flowers around burial sites. Over the centuries, this particular tradition hasn't changed much, and people continue to place flowers at graves, even today. While the sentiments are very similar, the reasons now are different. When someone we know passes away, we send flowers to the grief-stricken family. There are several reasons why this is a common practice:

  • Flowers are a representation of the cycle of life. When you send flowers to a grieving family, it is a mark of honor and respect to the decedent.

  • Flowers also help to mask any scent that arises from the decomposition of the body. Embalming wasn't very common in the past, and placing flowers near the body was a way to deal with this problem.

  • When you send flowers to funerals, you are also celebrating life. Different flowers indicate different things, which is why it is essential to make the right choices. Some flowers symbolize innocence, while others indicate purity, love, etc. The types of flowers that you send can express the relationship you had with the deceased person.

  • Flowers are also a way of comforting and supporting the bereaved family.

  • It is a way of sympathizing and expressing sentiments that are very difficult to put into words. While it is common to send flowers to funerals, make sure that you are aware of the traditions that the family follows. Certain religions do not have flowers at funerals. For instance, flowers are generally not placed in the Jewish faith. This is why you need to be aware of the traditions of the grieving family.
