Grief Amid The Pandemic: How To Show Love And Support Through Social Distancing

Grief is a long, painful process that can take a lot out of an individual. People need support, compassion, and companionship during this difficult time. Unfortunately, direct companionship is difficult when you’re facing a pandemic and are under lockdown. At Ocean County Cremation Service, we have a few tips that can help you support your loved one during this difficult time. Here’s a look at these tips:

1. Engage Them in Interesting Conversations

When people are isolated, there are few things to distract them from their grief. They have more time on their hands to think about their loss and drown in their pain. If you want to support them, engage them in distracting conversations. Discuss interesting topics like movies, television programs, music, science, animals, food, etc. You can even discuss politics and how local governments are responding to the pandemic. These things will take their mind off of their grief.

2. Arrange for Group Activities

Group activities like video conferences, group chats, and organized trips to the grocery or medical stores can help people feel connected. Many have started to use tools like Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to stay connected with their loved ones. You can use these platforms to help family members come together and share their grief.

3. See How You Can Support Them Directly

If your friend hasn’t been taking care of themselves or isn't responding to calls, you may need to intervene directly. If they aren't eating well, order a couple of meals for them. If they're not responding to calls, check-in with the neighbors or friends living nearby. That can help you keep track.

If you want to know more about the grieving process or want to arrange for a funeral service during a pandemic, contact us at Ocean County Cremation Service today. We’ll be happy to help.
