Obituary of Joseph Francis Fitzpatrick

Joseph "Poppy" Francis Fitzpatrick, 73, passed away in his sleep at home on Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Bayville, New Jersey. Joseph attended McKee High School and proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corp as a Military Police Officer. He bravely fought during the Vietnam War and was a distinguished medal recipient. Joseph was born September 14, 1943 in Staten Island, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edith Fitzpatrick, and his older sister. He is survived by 1 son (retired U.S. Navy Chief) and 4 daughters; 12 grandchildren (2 of which are away serving our country), 2 great-grandchildren, 1 surviving sister, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. Joseph worked for The City of New York for 31 years as a Diesel Mechanic where he also received an invention award. He was instrumental in the after math clean-up of September 11, 2001, receiving a Bravery Award. Poppy enjoyed "just being there" for his family no matter how near or how far. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, located at 383 Veterans Blvd, in Bayville, NJ from 4pm-8pm.
