Dautchen "Dutch" Voo Obituary

Dautchuen “Dutch” Voo, 95, of Forked River, NJ, and former long-time resident of Chatham, NJ, passed away in the presence of family on June 11, 2016.


Mr. Voo was born in 1921 and raised in Shanghai China. After graduating from Shanghai’s Jiao Tong University with a degree in Chemistry, he moved to Nanking where he married his wife Pauline of 58 years in 1947. He then moved to Taiwan where he was employed by the Taiwan Sugar Company prior to coming to the United States to obtain his Masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware. In the US he worked as a project engineer for various consulting companies including Proctor and Gamble, CF Braun and Foster Wheeler, and was an entrepreneur as well. He was an avid practitioner of Chinese medicine, an active member of the West Essex Chinese Association and played traditional Chinese instruments like the flute, sheng and erhu. After retiring, he enjoyed caring for his grandchildren, gardening, canoeing, bicycling, and working on his computer.


He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather who is survived by five children (and their spouses) Philip (Xiao Ming) of Madison, WI, Daniel (Suchen) of Millington, NJ, Virgil (Janis) of Forked River, NJ, Liann (Steve) of West Roxbury, MA, and Leonard (Angela) of Morristown, NJ. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren (and their spouses) Jennifer (Joseph), Justin, Jessica, Emily, Brian, Alex (Stephanie), Lila (Jeff), Devon (John), Erin (Shane), Alana, Sean (Amy) and three great grandchildren Ryan, Sophia, and Mason. He is also survived by his brother Dahong, and his sisters Xinjuan and Dezhong.
