Obituary of Edward Bonafide

 

TOMS RIVER- Edward Bonafide, 71, died Tuesday April 3, 2018 at home with his family by his side. He lived in Brick for three decades and he left a deep impression of love on all he met, especially young people.

He was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in July 2017. After a valiant battle using chemo he chose to spend his last three months at home with the help of Holy Redeemer Homecare and Hospice. He was constantly surrounded by friends and family.

Edward was an electronic technician after graduating from DeVry in 1980. He was the Digital Equipment Corporation on-site technician at NJIT. He later worked in the hospitality field as a deli manager at TP Subs in Lavallette, at the Holiday Inn in Toms River and Days Inn in Freehold. He was avid volunteer and always willing to help. In his retirement, Edward was IRS trained and certified to do taxes through the non-profit organizations VITA and AARP. His energy for helping others was tireless.

He was the coach of a state champion roller hockey team, a volunteer Cub Scout leader, World’s Greatest Scorekeeper for the champion Brick ADD Allstars in 2009, and most of all he was a consummate fan and supporter of his children, grandchildren and their friends.  

He is predeceased by his parents Dominick Bonafide and Jeanne Caruso. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Margaret F., of Toms River, six children -  4 daughters Angela, Ellen, Michelle and Jacqueline; 2 sons, Edward of Brick and Ian of Toms River, He is also survived by two brothers, Joseph of Elizabeth and John of Florida and a sister, Lauren Joseph also of Florida; 17 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.  He was also considered the “Universal husband” for Susan, Reenie, Joan and Linda.

Services will be held from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. A small non-denominational Prayer service at 4 p.m. Wednesday April 11, 2018 at Ocean County Cremation Service, 1252 Route 37 W, Toms River, NJ 08755.

A Funeral Mass for Edward is set for Thursday, April 12th, 11 a.m. at St. Martha’s Roman Catholic Church, Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant.  In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Holiday City Berkeley First Aid Squad, 100 Port Royal Drive, Toms River, NJ 08757, or to the family care of  Ocean County Cremation Service.
