Obituary of Charles Elwood Wilson

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charles Elwood Wilson, 83, of Barnegat, NJ, passed from this world on July 2, 2018, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, with his loving niece, Patti, by his side.  Charles was born at Riverside Hospital on March 13, 1935, the son of Morris Hanley Wilson and Marion Estelle (Caterall) Wilson. “Charley”, as he was affectionately known by his friends, worked as a masonry tradesman the majority of his life and most recently was employed as a custodian for Barnegat Lighthouse on Long Beach Island. He enjoyed crabbing, fishing, going for long car rides through the “pines”, spending time with his friends and playing the lottery. He always had a “dollar-and-a-dream”. Despite life’s struggles, he remained a kind and loving man with a positive outlook and always a funny joke or story to tell.  Charles was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Marion (Wilson) Pray and her husband, Clifford; and a brother, Maurice “Bud” Wilson and his wife, Pauline. He is survived by a sister, Anna May Sprague of West Creek, NJ, three nieces, three nephews, several great and great-great nieces and nephews and many dear and special friends. Donations in his memory may be made to Friends of Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, PO Box 923, Barnegat Light, NJ 08006.
