Obituary of James Vincent McGuire

James Vincent McGuire, age 97,of Lanoka Harbor passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Southern Ocean Medical Center. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Evelyn, his infant son, James Dennis, and two brothers, George and John.  James is survived by his four children and their spouses: Maria Titus (Martin), Kathleen Andrews (Walter), Patricia Melmed (Victor), and James McGuire (Anna). He is the beloved grandfather of Michelle, Michael, Kelly, Megan, Christopher, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Dylan, Rachel, and Danielle. He is also survived by his six great grandchildren: Joseph, Jeremy, Jacob, Alexander, George, and Aubrey.

 

James was born on May 8, 1922 in Jersey City, NJ. He served in the Army/Airforce during World War II, stationed in Africa. It was during the war that he met the love of his life, Evelyn. They were married in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 16, 1945. They would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year.  They raised their four children in Jersey City and Forked River, NJ.   

 

James worked for the Jersey City Police Department as a police officer and a detective until retiring in 1977. He owned his own detective agency and sold real estate after his retirement. Throughout his lifetime he served as a member of the Knights of Columbus, was a Eucharistic Minister,and was a respected board member of the Lacey Township Board of Education in the 1980's. 

 

His favorite pastime was playing golf and giving lessons to those interested in learning the sport. He loved bragging about his grandchildren and most recently his great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed!

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019, 10:00 AM, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 300 Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ 08731. Interment will be private.
