In Loving Memory Agnes Catherine Smith May 17, 1930-January 23, 2020 Catherine was the beloved mother of two children, a daughter Linda Hall and a son Donald Smith Jr. She was the proud “Grandma” to seven grandchildren: Donald Smith lll, Jonathan Smith, David Garcia, Michelle Garcia, Denise Garcia, Karen Garcia, and Mary Ann Garcia. She also was “Great grandma” to nine great grandchildren and “great-great grandma” to seven great grandchildren. A family she dearly loved and will be remembered by all. She was born in Hoboken, New Jersey to her parents; Alfred and Frieda Dittus, who had come to the United States after they left Germany during WWI. Agnes Catherine, interestingly, was delivered by Frank Sinatra’s mother who acted as the mid-wife for her neighbors. A woman of many talents, Catherine took up an interest in gardening and herbs, eventually turning her love into an herbal business. She also became a capable bookkeeper working with her husband, Donald Smith, Sr. in the family construction business. In her younger years, she worked for major companies as a secretary. She loved to crochet and knit making many items in her later years. She resided with her son and daughter for the last 14 years in Waretown, NJ. Her children were with her when she passed at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, NJ. from a terminal illness. She was loving and kind to everyone she met, always had a warm greeting for all. Often, she would cook for families in need or provide other services to help them during a family stress. She was a friend to many. We love you mom, you will always be in our hearts, until we meet again. Services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. 1 Mary Bell Rd, Manahawkin, N.J.
