Obituary of Valerie A Haa

Please share a memory of Valerie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Valerie A. Haa, 84, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on February 26, 2021. She was born on February 13, 1937 in Flushing, NY to the late Rodney and Florence (Scholl) Wise. She grew up in College Point, NY and later moved to Bayside, NY, where she raised her four children. In her youth, Val was very athletic, playing softball, roller derby, and even bowling semi-professionally for a short time. Val worked many jobs throughout her life to support her family; however, she always found time for a good poker game, whether at a friend’s house or in Atlantic City. Val was such an avid card player that she taught her whole family to play, and family gatherings always included a good card game that Val almost always won. After retiring, Val moved to Crestwood Village IV in Whiting, NJ to care for her mother. There, she became an active, dedicated, and proud member of the community, joining the Shuffleboard Club, Bocce Club, and Resident’s Club, just to name a few, and serving as a Village Representative, and, most recently, as a Trustee for Crestwood Village IV. She made friends everywhere she went, and she enjoyed sharing her many hobbies, including reading, crafting, astrology, shopping at estate sales, and playing Bingo with her friends and family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and she will be missed dearly by her family and many friends. Val is survived by her four children, Cindy L. Hackett of Townville, SC, Alan (Doris) Haa of Baldwin, NY, Karen J. Shiflett of Anderson, SC, and Susan (Ed) Erdmann of Baldwin, NY; her eight grandchildren, Shanna, Brianne, Kristen, Steven, Christopher, Nicole, Jesse, and Jessica; and four great-grandchildren, Levi, Kaidan, Kira, and Ava. In consideration of the overall safety of our family and friends during the current pandemic, we regretfully have chosen not to have a memorial service at this time. A private celebration of her life will be held on a later date. If you wish to send condolences, share memories, or share pictures from her life with her children, please address them to her daughter, Karen J. Shiflett, at 305 Serena Circle, Anderson, SC 29621.
