Obituary of Bernard J McCauley

Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BERNARD J MCCAULEY JR, 76 Bernard J McCauley Jr., 76, of Dunedin, Florida passed away peacefully at home in NJ with his daughter and family on April 3, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Eileen McCauley, his sisters, Kathleen Myer, and Sheila McCauley, and his beloved wife, Patricia Martucci. Bernie was born in Niagara Falls, NY. As a young child he grew up in the Irish section of the Bronx, NY before moving to West Orange, NJ. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. Bernie worked for IBM for 25 years, and after retirement, worked for the Department of Homeland security with the Federal Air Marshals in NJ. Through the years he had longtime co-workers and associates, many of whom became his very close friends. He had many gifts, and humor was the foremost gift that he shared with everyone he met. When gathered with friends and family for any reason, he was sure to have props, sometimes improvised costumes and always laughter. Anyone who knew him has at least a few “Bernie” stories. His work ethic was like no other, and he instilled his passion and persistence of doing the job right with his colleagues and customers alike. He instinctively became a father figure to many, instilling in them confidence, drive, and the importance of a good education. His legacy continues in the lives of those he positively influenced. His Irish Heritage was very important to him, visiting the “homeland” several times. One might say he was the unofficial ambassador and spokesman for Ireland and loved to share Irish stories with anyone who would listen. He had the fighting Irish spirit as expressed by his love and passion for all things Notre Dame football. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Batton and son-in-law, John W. Batton III, his two cherished grandchildren, Connor J. Batton, and Julia G. Batton, whom he had an incredibly special relationship with. He is also survived by his niece Diana Chery, and nephew, William Myer; as well as other relatives and innumerable friends. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Hackensack Meridian Hospice. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last month were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. In lieu of any services, Bernard wanted his life to be celebrated with all that knew him by telling one of his infamous jokes and enjoying a cocktail. Sláinte! An Irish Blessing May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
