Obituary of Thomas DeWitt

Thomas “TJ” Jefferson DeWitt, aged 89, passed away at home on October 27, 2021 in Barnegat, New Jersey. Mr. DeWitt was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, during which he was stationed in Tachikawa, Japan. He spent 31 years with AT&T in various management roles and locations, including district manager, worked for 6 years as Zoning Officer in Barnegat, and spent time working at Viking Yachts of Bass River, NJ in 1988-89. He also owned and operated Barnegat Bay Marine Electric, a boat wiring business, for 18 years. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. DeWitt, and his beloved children, Christene (Dennis) Parker, Kathleen (Ron) Worley, Scott DeWitt, Craig (M. Susan) DeWitt, Mary Lee DeWitt, and Lauren DeWitt; Grandchildren, Jennifer (Noah) Broestl, Matthew (Alaina) DeWitt, Jeffrey (Allison) Machiaverna, Katherine Dutton-DeWitt, Garrett (Victoria) Baker, Rachel Baker, and five great grandchildren. Mr. DeWitt was a Hospice volunteer for 9 years with Meridian Hospice South, of Stafford Township. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Parish of Barnegat for over 35 years. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Parish, 745 West Bay Ave. Barnegat, NJ on November 19, 2021 at 11am. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in North Hanover, NJ at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Mr. DeWitt had requested that donations in his honor be made to either Meridian Hospice South of Stafford Twp, NJ or Hospice VNA of Toms River, NJ.
