Obituary of Marie Modica Silverstein

Marie Modica Silverstein, age 90 of Waldwick, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, March 25, 2022. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Marie served her communities and family well. Her priority was people. She was a mom to 6, mother-in-law to 6, grandmother to 16, and great grandmother to 4. She also spent time helping women who were struggling. Marie spent most of her life serving others. Besides raising a huge family, and extended family, she is most remembered in the Christian community serving women and ministering to them through their life challenges. She worked at Life Advocates in Allendale, NJ helping women through unplanned pregnancies, Abundant Life assembly of God counseling woman with everyday life issues, a leader at Woman’s Aglow Ministries, served on the ministry team at Eagles Wings, began providing food for those in need with her husband Charlie at New Hope Community Ministries Food Pantry in Prospect Park, NJ, started by Charlie and Marie in 2005, and most recently served as outreach ambassador at Emmanuel Community women’s ministry in Bayville, NJ. Marie was the example of a woman who emulated and loved who God was in her life. Her hospitality, integrity, humor, care, endurance, prayerfulness, faithfulness, and generous nature will be missed by many whose lives she touched. Surviving is her younger sister Rose, four sons and their spouses, Michael & Diane, Bill & Debbie, Stephen, and Chuck and Becky, and her daughters and their spouses, Sue Ten Eyck & Paul, and Lisa Crowe and John. As well as the 16 grandchildren, their three spouses, and soon to be 4th great grandchild. The Silverstein family will have a time of visitation on Saturday, April 9th, at 11 am, followed by a memorial service on Saturday, April 9th, at Noon, at Metro Church, 202 Squaw Brook Road, North Haledon, NJ 07508. Live streaming will be available. In lieu of flowers; memorial contributions in Marie’s name may be made to New Hope Community Ministries Food Pantry in Prospect Park, NJ, started by Marie and Charlie in 2005.
