Gail Louise Mennecke Kuhlthau, age 78, of Portland, Maine passed away on July 14, 2023

surrounded by family.  Gail was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on October 3, 1944 to the late

Augusta and George Mennecke.   Gail moved to Brick then Wall,  where she raised her family, 

before ending up in Portland, Maine  in 2005.

Gail earned her Nursing degree in the early 90’s and enjoyed volunteering at Maine Medical in

Portland.  Her many interests included playing mahjong and cards, reading, learning different

languages and taking dream as well as autism education classes to help understand and

support her grandson.  She enjoyed snowy winters and taking pictures of nature.

Words that describe Gail are caring, sweet, beautiful, strong, thoughtful, kind, creative, active,

and family oriented.

Gail is predeceased by her parents, Augusta and George Mennecke,  sister Nancy Votra,

brother-in-law, Harold Votra Jr.,  former husband, Warren Kuhlthau II and best friend June Starr.

Gail is survived by her children Warren Kuhlthau III of Howell, NJ; Kristine Oyola (Fabian) of

Jackson, NJ.  She is survived by her grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan and Fabian Jr.  Gail also

leaves behind her beloved furbaby, Georgie Boy.

Gail will be missed dearly by many nieces, nephews, friends and family.  

Cremation will be handled privately and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of
