Obituary of Kevin Robert McCann

Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kevin Robert McCann of Barnegat Light, New Jersey (formerly of Mount Olive, New Jersey) passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends on the night of Sunday, November 5 th , 2023. He was best known for his witty humor, warm spirit, and bellowing laughter. Kevin was born on February 2 nd , 1957 in Kearny, New Jersey to Frank McCann and Eleanor McCann (nee Jacobson). He attended Kearny Public Schools, where he enjoyed playing tennis and swimming, as well as forming many lifelong friendships, which he kept to this day. An avid Wildcat, Kevin went on to study Civil Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. There, he continued to competitively play tennis while cultivating interests in skiing, backpacking, and the outdoors, as well as studying multi-media art. He thoroughly enjoyed his college years, developing an ear for rock bands such as the Grateful Dead, throwing many a “Full Moon Boogie,” and starting even more friendships that he kept all his life. After college, he returned to New Jersey and began a job as a civil engineer with his brother Richard at the Austin Helle Company. He married his wife Rosanne Siwicki McCann, also of Kearny, New Jersey, in 1986. They moved to Mount Olive the following year, where they raised 2 daughters: Alison and Megan. Kevin was an incredibly dedicated and selfless husband and father, always being there for and listening to his family, and frequently creating scavenger hunts, painting huge birthday cards, and planning family vacations – sometimes over a year in advance and involving countless hours of him driving. As a result, he incorporated his family into his friendships via yearly trips to Cape Hatteras, New England, and Long Beach Island. He also instilled a passion for his interests in his daughters; Alison in arts, Megan in engineering, and both in the outdoors, skiing, humor, and the Grateful Dead. He worked for 30 years at the Austin Helle Company, becoming Vice President until they dissolved in 2013. He then continued working as an engineer at the LF Driscoll Company up to his glioblastoma diagnosis in 2019. Kevin impressively survived over 4 years with glioblastoma – over doubling his original prognosis. He spread laughter and happiness to nearly everyone he met, and his relentless positivity and generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rosanne Siwicki McCann, and his daughters, Alison McCann (Nicholas Jungwirth) and Megan McCann, as well as his older sister, Carol Matheke (Steven Matheke), and older brother, Richard McCann (Jane Pannone). There will be a service in his honor at Saint Peter’s at the Light in Barnegat Light, New Jersey at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 11 th , followed by a luncheon and Celebration of Life at Kubel’s. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please send a donation to the National Park Foundation or the American Cancer Society and please tell your loved ones your favorite joke.
