Walter H. Peters Obituary

Walter H. Peters

Walt was born on August 11, 1943, and was the only child of Walter and Gladys Peters.

He was born and raised in Irvington, NJ, and graduated from Irvington HS in 1961. He then

earned his degree in Business from Bloomfield College in 1965.

Walt married Linda Hiebel on June 25, 1966. In 1971, and they relocated to Toms River

where they raised their children, Wende and Mark. They resided in Holiday City West in 2013

where Walt served as a trustee. They enjoyed their winter getaways in  Florida (specifically The

Villages) for many years.

Walt is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, of 57 years, his daughter, Wende and her

husband, Robert Goodall;  his son, Mark, and his wife, Rosa, along with his five adoring

grandchildren:  Robbie, Ryan, Abby, Ava, and Mark Jr.

Walt loved five things: his family, friends, work, hobbies, and country. His family was his

greatest treasure. He was filled with an extraordinary sense of pride  in his children and

grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. He could be found in Disney

World, golfing, tending to the house, or working in the yard. He was a jack of all trades known to

many as ¨MacGyver¨ because he could fix almost anything. Walt volunteered for many

organizations but was most proud of serving for seven years on the Board of Directors of SADD,

Students Against Driving Drunk. Above all, he enjoyed helping out friends and neighbors. It was

a running joke that Walt bought three of everything; one for himself, one if it broke, and one in

case anyone else needed it. Anyone who knew Walt could confirm his devotion to sports, food,

and conversation; small talk was never a problem. He enjoyed debating politics and had a

favorite slogan, “DON´T VOTE, DON´T BITCH!”

He started his teaching career at Walsh HS in Irvington. He worked there for fifteen

years where he also taught kids to drive. He finished his teaching career at Monsignor Donovan

where he was a devoted teacher, counselor, and coach for 35 years. He truly loved his job and

had a passion for coaching football and golf.  He had a love for all his players and staying in

touch with them brought him much pride. He has touched many lives and will be greatly missed

by all who knew him.

Walt celebrated his 80th birthday this past August with one hundred of his closest friends

and family. He passed away surrounded by his biggest fans, his family. Walt will be cremated

and a private Celebration of Life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be

made to St Jude or Tunnel 2 Towers.
