Eileen Cohen Obituary

Eileen (Rosner) Cohen, 88 born in Manhattan and resided in Brooklyn and New Jersey has passed on March 30th, 2024. Eileen was born on April 28th, 1935 and due to difficult family trials lived for the first 3 years of her life in an orphanage and was cared for by nuns. She was ten years old when she finally rejoined her family of Beverly and Joseph, and lived with her siblings until reaching adulthood. Beverly was interested in photography and art and often took photos of her sister. Eileen wanted to pursue a career in art or go to college but as it happened she ended up like most young women of her time, falling in love and starting a family. With Carl Katz, her first husband she had son Fred Katz and daughter Denise. Eileen will be remembered by her sister's son, nephew Adam and his wife Linda and their now adult children Alexis, Brittany and Dereck. My mother stepped in when Beverly left us too soon, to make sure a good time was had by all! Eileen was always making new friends, and loved to be out on the town, go to see Broadway musicals and travel. She will also leave behind daughter Denise Katz Howick living in Florida, and wife Tonia, grandchildren Charlotte and William. Charlotte mentions, if I could have one last conversation with her I would tell her how much she meant to the family and how I wish I had been able to visit her in New Jersey.

Eileen remarried Gilbert Cohen and they had one child David Jon Cohen, she had been so proud of his talents as an actor and singer and often let people know that her son had been in Les Misérables on Broadway. Larry Gerstein and his wife Dawah were very instrumental in helping my mom as she coped with losing her husband and making life changes, as were the entire Gevanter family. Though my mother Eileen faced many challenges she had a full life and always preferred to live in the moment and not look backward. Insert here her love of Atlantic City! My mother enjoyed a full professional career as a realtor for Coldwell Banker in Fort Lee, N.J. She often talked about her clients as if they were family, she always wanted the best for everyone. Eileen Cohen loved her friends including Leah Gold, and her family very much until the end of her life. Please forgive me if I don't have a more complete list of all the people that loved, supported and laughed with my mother throughout her lifetime. As an honor to her I was able to make a giving page on the MADD website, in case that is something you would like to do in her memory.
