Bona Jean Heitman Obituary

Bona Jean Heitman,100, formerly of Bricktown NJ, passed away on May 20, 2024.

Bona was born on May 30, 1923, in Topeka, Kansas to John and Blanche Creviston,

and was the oldest of 5 children. She passed just 10 days short of her 101st birthday.

In the mid 40s Bona met Harry while working as a secretary at Fort Riley were he was

stationed. She was known as the Jitter Bug Queen and they shared a love of dancing

They married in 1947 and together they raised a family of 4 children. In 1983, Bona

retired from the Brick Township School System where she had worked for 21 years. She

was an excellent seamstress, even working at a bridal shop for a time. She spent her

time knitting, reading, quilting, gardening and living a very active lifestyle. Her words of

wisdom for a long life were to take care of your teeth, never stop moving and to make a

difference in life. To this end she was recently awarded a certificate of merit by the NJ

State Legislators for her many years of service to the community.

Bona was predeceased by her 4 siblings: Richard, Donald, Joanne and Robert; her

husband Harry; her in-laws - George and Doris, Norma and Roger. She is survived by

her 3 sons: Michael, wife Margie; Jerry, wife Alison; Fred, wife Rita and daughter Beth,

husband Bill. Bona loved and was very proud of her 10 grandchildren and 13 great-

grandchildren. She also loved her many friends at the Beachwood Community Center,

Library, and the Lighthouse quilting group at St. Paul’s Church.

Services will be held at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Bricktown on June 15, 2024 at

1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Thomas

Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice in her honor.
