Obituary of Richard E Casler
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard E.
Casler passed away on May 31, 2024, with his devoted wife of 63 years,
Marie, by his side seven days after his 87th birthday.
Richie was born in Hoboken, NJ, to John and Ann Casler. As a boy he
loved sports and excelled in baseball and basketball. He was a lifelong
Boston Red Sox fan. At the age of seventeen he met the love of his life,
Marie Fitzpatrick and they were rarely seen apart for the next 70 years
as together they raised their family.
In Lyndhurst, NJ Richie was active in the Knights of Columbus and
became a Third degree Knight. He also was a strong supporter of
scouting and served as Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 96 for many years.
Richie was proud to be from Hoboken and he loved Maxwell House
coffee, from which he retired as a Production Manager after 36 years.
He was also proud to have served in the Army National Guard. He
loved Long Beach Island and enjoyed the company of his many
neighbors and friends on LBI. He was devoted to his parish, St. Francis
of Assisi, where he served as head usher and volunteered in the food
pantry.
Most of all, Richie enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved a
good laugh and would often have the entire family roaring as he told
funny stories, sang his favorite songs and tried new dance moves with
his grandchildren. He attended as many of his grandchildren’s events
as he could – from sporting events to dance recitals. Richie taught his
entire family the value of hard work and dedication. He was dedicated
to many things – his faith, his community, his friends, and most of all
his family.
Richie was preceded in death by his brother, John and his sister Marilyn
DiLorenzo.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Mary
(Casler) Purcell of Brick Township, NJ; Richard E. Casler, Jr. and his wife
Carol of Hainesport, NJ; Kenneth Casler and his wife Roseanne of
Pompton Lakes, NJ; and Jeffrey C. Casler and his wife Mary Jean of
McLean, VA.
“Pop-pop” will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Megan Miller
and husband Mike Miller; Erin and Joseph Purcell; Cayla and Bella
Casler; Emma Casler; and, Brian, Michael and Matthew Casler; and his
great-grandsons Tyler and Zachary Miller.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, June 6th at 10AM at St.
Francis of Assisi Church, 4700 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach Island, NJ,
followed by a Mass of Celebration and Thanksgiving at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to St. Jude’s
