Obituary of Joseph P Marcelli

It is with great sadness that we announced the passing of Joseph P. Marcelli on May 26, 2024. He was 77 years old. He was born on May 29, 1946 to Joseph and Rosa Marcelli. “Broadway” as Joe was known as most of his life, was born in Newark, NJ. After spending some time in the US Navy he came home to work for Bitzig Roofing, later to be Moravek Roofing, in 1965 until his retirement in 2000. During his long career as a roofer he mentored many men into the roofing industry, including his eldest nephew Joe. Broadway Joe got his name from being the original “sharp dressed man” wearing tuxedos on most social occasions. Some may even say the former jets QB took his nickname! He was an avid NY Mets and NY Giants fan. He was a character like no other and is sorely missed by all that knew him. Joseph leaves behind his beloved sister Alice Marcelli and her companion Anthony Morabito, sister Marlene Tannenbaum. Nephews Joseph and wife Helen Marcelli, John and wife Sandra Marcelli, Anthony Zito and wife Christina. Great nephews John and Michael Marcelli, and Anthony Zito Jr. and great niece Samantha Zito A memorial service will be held at Ocean County Cremation Service, 1252 Rt. 37 W. Toms River NJ 08755, on Thursday June 6, 2024, from 11:00 to 12:00 noon
