William Richard Groh passed away on May 26, 2024, after a short illness.
Born on August 3, 1937, in Madison, NJ, Bill grew up in Florham Park, NJ, and graduated from Madison High School, where he played baseball. After graduation, Bill played minor league baseball and served in the National Guard. He spent most of his career working as a printer at Beneficial Management and worked at Claridge Casino before his retirement.
Bill and his beloved wife, Martha, had been married for 46 years. Avid bowlers, they had met at the Morris Essex Lanes in Florham Park, which was also Martha’s hometown. The couple were married in the United Methodist Church in Chatham and lived in Florham Park for a decade before moving to Manahawkin, NJ, to enjoy a quieter life. In Manahawkin, they raised their son, Darren, and were longtime members of Manahawkin United Methodist Church.
A quiet man, Bill was a collector of model trains and a fan of baseball, bowling, and golf, which he enjoyed with his lifelong friend, Dave Cannon. After the family had moved closer to the beach in Manahawkin, Bill spent more time outdoors with his son, Darren, whose interest in nature led the pair on many adventures.
Bill is survived by his wife Martha (West) Groh, his son Darren Groh, his daughter-in-law Andrea (Carrothers) Groh, and his grandchildren, Aubrey and Brent Groh. He is also survived by his son William Groh, Jr., his daughter Cheryl Sutter, his grandchildren Beau and Chantel, and his brother Philip Groh. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, the late Carl and Mary Groh, and by six of his siblings, including Carl Groh, Edward Groh, Ferdinand Groh, Mary (Groh) Porter, Oliver Groh, and Peter Groh. He is also predeceased by his son, Corey Groh.
