Willie Underwood Jr., affectionately known as Bill, was born on January 19, 1940, in Gary, Indiana, to Willie
Underwood Sr. and Marie Smith Underwood. He attended Roosevelt High School, where he developed a
passion for music, particularly playing the bongos and congas.
Following his high school years, Willie joined the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the
Vietnam War. With the onset of the computer age, Willie discovered his remarkable talent in electronics and
computer building. His expertise led him to a teaching position at a New Jersey Career Center, where he
inspired and educated students in electronics.
After his teaching career, Willie ventured into entrepreneurship by founding Kodiac Business Group (KBG),
through which he sold sculptures and various other items. Willie had many passions, including training and
breeding dogs, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, bowling, and cooking.
Willie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen Underwood, his parents, his three sisters—Barbara
Jean Underwood, Glory Brooks, and Travesten Underwood—and his three brothers—Robert Brooks, Samuel
Brooks, and Kenneth Underwood.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons: Bernard (Bettye) Underwood of Houston, TX, and Willie (Kadi)
Underwood III of Buffalo, NY; two daughters: Yvette Underwood of Atlanta, GA, and Majorie Underwood of
Cincinnati, OH; nine grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; a
sister, Juanita Bowen; two nephews, four nieces, and a host of other relatives.
