Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband/father, Walter D. Myers. On July 2, 2024, he went home to be with His Lord, while peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home. Walter was 93 years old, born on May 6, 1931 in New Brunswick, NJ, to Emma and John Meredith Myers. He was the second of eleven children. He graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1949, and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954. He was a combat veteran in the Korean War, stationed on the U.S.S. Philippine Sea aircraft carrier. He was married to his wife Shirley, and together they raised two daughters in North Plainfield. He is survived by his wife of 65+ years, Shirley, his daughters Darla Dorflinger (Edward) of Mays Landing, NJ, and Sherri Bohling (Robert) of Bullard, TX, six grandchildren, Nicole Ainslie (Luke), Britany Sholly (Joshua), Justin Dorflinger (Lisa), Joshua, Austin, and Elijah, as well as five great grandchildren, Connor, Mackenzie, William, Benjamin, and Thomas. He is survived by his 4 remaining siblings, Kenneth, Dorothy, Theodore, and Phillip and many nieces and nephews. He was a great patriot who passed along his love of country to all of his children and grandchildren. One of the highlights of his life was to be celebrated at the Honor Flight ceremonies in Washington, DC in 2016. In the past, he enjoyed playing softball, bowling, watching the NY Yankees & Dallas Cowboys, and was lovingly known as Mr. Fix It to his family and friends. The joy of his life was spending time with his grandchildren. A private ceremony honoring his life will be held at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ, where he will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice, and or Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
