Charles Henry Fleisher Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles Henry Fleisher, Jr., on July 4,

2024.

Charlie “Fly”, as he like to call himself, was born in the Bronx, New York, on September 6,

1946.

Throughout the 1970’s, while raising his family in Belford, NJ with his first wife Joan Ricketts,

he commuted daily to midtown Manhattan where he worked for Technicolor Laboratory using

his extensive knowledge of film technology in the production of major motion pictures, often in

the company of film producers, actors and directors; and also provided his technical skills on

Hanna-Barbera cartoon series such as Scooby doo, Atom Ant and Top Cat. In the mid 1980’s, he

began working for the American Cancer Society, using his skills on the creation of filmstrips and

slides for use by physicians, scientists and educators in their search for a cure for cancer.

In 1985, he married Linda Cooper Haas in Sayreville, NJ, and in 1988 they moved to Atlanta,

Georgia, where he began managing retail stores like Tuesday Morning and Fitz and Floyd.

In 2001, the Fleishers chose to move back north to be close to their blended family of children

and grandchildren, and bought a home in Berkeley Township, NJ.

In spite of the extreme medical hardships visited upon him the last few years of his life, and from

a hospice bed since April 2024, he managed to maintain his incredible sense of humor: he

enjoyed watching sports on TV; loved Deadliest Catch: and any type of animal programming he

could find on TV, especially Pitbulls and Parolees. Game of Thrones, and all Harry Potter and

Lord of the Ring Trilogy movies were his favorites. He was kind to all of his fellow residents and beloved

by the staff at Care One @Jackson, and Affinity Hospice, despite his occasional stubborn streak.

And with it all he still considered himself to be “Lucky Fly”.

Charlie was pre-deceased by his mother Veronica Fleisher, his father Charles Fleisher Sr., his

sister Ann Bogan, and by his son Christopher.

He is survived by his daughter Karen and husband Walter Boyd; his son Charles Fleisher and his

companion Elvie Sztybel; his grandchildren from son Christopher--Morghan Fleisher and

Christian Fleisher; his sister Ginger O’Connor; numerous nieces and nephews from his sisters

Ann and Ginger; his stepson Michael Haas and spouse Jodi Haas; his stepson Jeffrey Haas; and

his granddaughters from stepson Michael--Ann Marie Haas and Nicole Haas.
