Richard Leigh Hurley III Obituary

Richard Leigh Hurley III, aged 88, of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 27,

2024, in the company of his devoted companion Wilma Errickson. Born on September

13, 1936, in Trenton, NJ as the only son to the late Richard Leigh Hurley Jr and Janet

(Dempster), Richard proudly carried the family name and now passes the torch to the

next generation.

A graduate of Ewing High School Class of 1954, Dick treasured organizing and attending

his class reunions where he enjoyed reconnecting with old friends. He dedicated years of

service to the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Intrepid, embodying the discipline and

commitment valued by our military community. Following his naval service, Dick

pursued a civilian career that reflected his love for the open road, first as a truck

salesman and then as a truck driver. Most recently, he worked at R & D Transport,

where he continued to build a reputation for hard work and dedication until June of this

year, marking the end of a long and respected career.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dick was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan,

often found in front of the TV, fully engaged in the game – whether with his eyes open or

closed. He relished the simple pleasures in life such as shopping at Walmart and Aldi,

dining at Applebee’s, visiting the dog park daily and buying gifts for the next birthday or

holiday.

There will forever be a void in our hearts, but we find comfort believing that he was

greeted by the smile and warm embrace of his beloved wife Sally (Kusek) and two sons,

Richard Leigh IV and Jeffrey Allen, who have all left us much too soon.

Richard, affectionately known as “Dick,” leaves behind his beloved dog Jeter, two sisters

Adelaide Meck (husband Ken) and Susan Simonson (husband Joe) as well as a family

that extends his legacy across generations.
