Louis (Lou) J. DeMato, 84, of Hazlet New Jersey died Thursday, January 9, 2025, at his home after battling cancer for the last 5 years.
Lou was born in Bound Brook, New Jersey, to Joseph and Mary DeMato. He grew up in a loving, close knit Italian family, with macs and gravy on the table on Sundays with plenty for everyone.
Lou graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1958. After high school he served in the U.S. Army Military Police, stationed in France.
After serving in the army, Lou spent his career working at various car dealerships in sales and management positions. He ended his career working at a Mercedes dealership in Elizabeth. Due to his success in sales, he enabled the owners to open a large Mercedes dealership in Morristown N.J. This was an accomplishment, he was very proud of and a capstone of his career.
Lou was a devout fan of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. His love for music included Jazz and tunes from Frank Sinatra, Chicago, and Gordon Lightfoot to name a few.
Lou loved a dry martini and to sip on a good of wine with dinner. He liked to think he was a wine connoisseur.
Lou was an all around nice guy and was known as “Cheez” to his close friends. He will be missed by his friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Joseph DeMato, William DeMato, and Tony Alaimo and his sister Nancy Cristaldi.
He leaves behind his loving partner of 50 years Kathy Baker, who was his daily caretaker until the very end, his 2 children Suzanne Harrington and her fiancé Harry Brown of Hooksett, N.H., Louis DeMato, and his wife Tiesha of Manchester, N.H., 2 grandchildren, Steven Harrington of Nashua, N.H. and Kimberly Harrington of Manchester, N.H., and his ex-wife and mother of his children whom he remained friends with, Maria Bell of Manchester, N.H.
There will be no services at this time. Lou’s ashes will be buried by his children in New Hampshire at a later date.
