Obituary of Helen Remer Connell

Helen Remer Connell July 20, 1925 ‐ June 6, 2016 Helen (Lynn) Connell passed away June 6, 2016. Born to Francis and Vera Remer July 20, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA, she lived in Perkasie, PA and Merchantville, NJ graduating from Merchantville H.S. in 1943. Helen graduated from Philadelphia General Hospital Nursing School in 1946 and joined the Army. She married Sgt. Joseph William Connell in 1948. They lived in Roswell, NM and Portsmouth NH before moving to Forked River in 1964. Helen worked as a nurse at Community Memorial Hospital and joined her husband at Joe Connell Realty in 1972. In 1984 she was went back to nursing at Bayview Convalescent Center retiring in 1993. Helen enjoyed gardening, reading, live theater, opera, big band music, ballet, chocolate and swimming. Helen was a member of the PTA (Pres), Lacey Garden Club (Pres), Forked River Baptist Church, Lacey Historical Society and the League of Women Voters. She was a kind peaceful person who loved life and accepted people as they are. She found peace in the ocean waves on LBI and the lake in the Pines. Helen was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be truly missed. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe in 1992; two sisters: Margaret Jones and Dorothy Cooley and son‐in‐law William Baker. She is survived by her sister Vera (Bunny) Nelson; her sons Joe Connell Jr., Bruce Connell (Mary Ellen) and Jeff Connell (Robin) and her daughters Ruthann Couch (Gene) and Amy Baker, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Marina, her caregiver for her outstanding care of our mother. A private Celebration of Life service is planned for July. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Ocean County Library Foundation or the NARFE Alzheimer's Research Fund #79 at 2280 Bonnie Lane, Springfield, OR 97477‐6511 in her name.
