Obituary of Gregory James

Gregory (Greg) James, 42 of Indian Mills, NJ entered into his eternal rest Saturday January 28, 2017. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 17, 1974 to Robert and Marie (Weick) James. He was a graduate of Indian Mills Elementary School and a 1993 graduate of Shawnee High School where he played on the soccer and ice hockey teams. He owned and operated Tabernacle Landscaping for several years before entering a career as a Pipefitter / Welder out of Union Local 322 / 172. Greg was a proud father to his son Landon who survives. Also surviving are his father, his sister Michele (Dennis) Smith, his brother Matthew (Lisa) James as well as four nieces and nephews; Jillian and Mallory Smith, and Harrison and Amelia James. He is survived by (19) Aunts and Uncles as well as his many cousins and friends. Greg was predeceased by his mother Marie in September 2016, his maternal Grandparents Edward and Marie Weick, his paternal Grandparents J. Walter and Mary James, and three maternal Aunts; Donna Fricke, Patricia Florentino, and Judy Weick. Greg had many hobbies, predominantly centered around hockey, working with his hands and his love for the outdoors. After High School, he continued to play men’s league ice hockey for several years, participating in the annual Lake Placid tournament as a defenseman on his team. He was an avid hunter, spending each fall in pursuit of deer, ducks and geese in and around southern New Jersey. He loved to boat and fish in both fresh and saltwater, a hobby and passion he passed on to Landon. To his many friends and loved ones, Greg will always be remembered for his mischievous smile, his laugh and quick wit. He was always ready to help a friend in need, and made sure that those around him never took themselves or their situations too seriously. His presence in a room was always felt in the way he kept things light and fun through a joke, a laugh, or a humorous observation often at his own expense. Visitation is being held on Saturday February 4th at Ocean Community Church, 1492 NJ Route 72, Manahawkin, NJ starting at 10 AM. A celebration service will follow. A private burial is planned for family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an account established for Greg’s son Landon at the TD Bank, 591 Route 72 West, Manahawkin NJ 08050.
